How a Sludge Filter Press Works

Sludge filter presses separate liquids from solids using pressure:

1. Sludge Feed: A sludge pump delivers sludge into the chambers between the filter plates.
2. Filtration Stage: A pressure of 7–20 bar is applied, causing water to drain through the micropores in the filter cloth.
3. Cake Formation: Solids are trapped in the filter chambers, gradually forming a high-solids-content filter cake.
4. Filtrate Discharge: The filtrate is returned to the plant’s wastewater treatment system.
5. Cake Removal: After the filter plates open, the dry solids fall automatically or manually.

The entire filtration cycle typically takes 1–2 hours.
